The 7 Sister States also called "Paradise Unexplored" is a name given to the contiguous states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura in northeastern India. this vague picture portray these states as an epitome of honesty, austerity n serenity atleast what i believed about the seven sisters after reading some really exemplary articles about peace n purity of states like mizoram. But never knew about or never payed attention towards the darker side of the picture perfect ..
Yes talking about the brutal ASSAM RIOTS...the 'BODO - MUSLIM' clashes...refering to the july 2012 fratricidal killing news in kokrajhar district of assam. out of curiosity i tried to dig deeper concerning this pitiful act...
Through my briefer case study i found out that these problems are existing since 1983 or even before that..bodo is the community reciding since hundreds of years..n calling their region as BODOLAND...as seen in the map..
Tribals keep killing immigrant bengali -speaking muslims under the anti foreigners agitation. They are unhappy with the bangladeshis migrating to assam's districts ever since the partition time from east pakistan...
Many peace treaties like first bodo acccord (1993) and the second bodo accord (2003) (followif the failure of the first) have been framed to deal with the agitated bodo groups..as bodos demanded for seperate statehood ie "Divide Assam 50-50" but the govt agreed on settling the issue by giving them an autonomous council under terms and conditions.. givng rise to the hopes of development and peace in BTAD (bodoland territorial autonomous district) consisting of four districts (KOKRAJHAR,CHIRANG,BAKSA and UDALGURI) which is ruled by BTC (bodoland territorial council) n kokrajhar being Bodoland's capital.
Some blame state government and some central government's inaction on issues such as 'illegal immigration', a sense of loss of rights among non-bodos in the BTC (bodoland territorial council) -ruled areas, killling, abduction and extortion by former militants have kept the situation on boil... rendering 77 people dead n 4 lacs homeless till date..
TARUN GOGOI ..cm of assam himself said the issue worsened cause of the "delayed arrival of central forces " which Mr. Chidambaram opposed by giving political statements..
Opposition parties like the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have also slammed the government's role into the whole incident and the administration's failure to help the affected people.
The agitation is all over the country..- the violence which took place in Mumbai after this act where two persons died and 14 others were injured when a protest here against Assam riots turned violent as demonstrators torched vehicles, including media vans, and pelted stones, leading the police to fire in the air and use batons to the disperse the unruly mob...not only in Mumbai but even in other parts of the country like Banglore,Lucknow and many more, the agitation is on hype..as per the records around 17000 assamese moved back to the north-eastern regions.People all over these areas are showing their agitation (arouse by heart sucking photos ,sms, mms spreading like forest fire all over the nation), raj thakrey's 'i don't care for the official permission' rally , then the reduction of bulk sms count to 5 sms per day etc etc are all the outcomes of the same issue.
Putting my personal views down...a thought just crossed my mind "THE PROTESTS, THE RALLYS,putting cars, two wheelers n shops on arson"..I mean..Is this the right way of waking up the sleepy heads Central government ministers to take actions??...Is this the right way of spreading awareness among the common man who is unaware of the NE problem??...Is this the right way to convert a state's sorrow to a nationwide reckless suffering ??
The answer is a big "NO"...its totally unethical ..at this time what we need to do is bring our mature sides as a contributing citizen and search ways to curb the sufferings of our NE brothers ..make govt realise "its time to take strict actions" through more ethical ways peacefully.
tt
Although prime minister Manmohan Singh has announced to issue Rs 300 crore for the rehabilitation of the victims...but we are aware of this fact that thousands of these people are living in rahabilitation camps since 17 years or so...some serious strict actions needs to be taken to curb this issue rather than making it a 'vote bank' raising source by simply visiting the affected people and showing sympaties..crticizing opposition or putting the baggage of irresponsibe attitudes from one shoulder to another..
In the end i would like to wind up saying that their is nothing to conclude over this topic...just a change in the thought process train and putting it in a more positive track of sense of responsibility, togetherness, peace and harmony..united we stand, divided we fall...this cliche needs to b inculcated and wiser steps needs to b taken !
